Riverbend Cottage

Hawkesbury River Kayaks is excited to be able to offer River Access Only accommodation to our kayaking guests. Located at Coba Point, half way between Brooklyn and Berowra Waters, we have Riverbend Cottage, a large four bedroom cottage right on the river, complete with 2 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, 2 verandahs and private beach.  


Perfectly suited for couples or friends looking for a unique weekend getaway, the cottage is just a two hour paddle from Berowra Waters.  Once there, step out of your kayak onto the beach, and up to the verandah overlooking the Hawkesbury River.  The cottage is equipped with everything you'll need for the weekend including:

  • Reverse Cycle A/C
  • WiFi
  • Smart TV (log on with your own Netflix/Stan/Prime/Spotify etc accounts
  • BBQ
  • Gas cooker/oven
  • Laundry
  • Fridge
  • 2 Fully equipped kitchens
  • 2 bathrooms
  • Basics such as tea/coffee/sugar/milk etc
  • Clean linen and towels
  • Off Grid Solar/Battery
  • Tank Water


Optional extra service - we can take your food/drink/clothing etc directly to the cottage, so you can paddle the river without all that gear stored in the kayaks.  Everything will be waiting for you in the fridge and in the cottage when you arrive!


Suggested Itinerary

For the past 5 years we have been helping kayakers enjoy the river at its best by assisting with river camping trips, and now we can apply that knowledge to our KayakBnB.  We have found the most popular trip itinerary runs as follows:

  • Meet at Kangaroo Point just out of Brooklyn
  • Pack all gear into HRK vehicle (or into HRK river transport if taking the optional gear/food drop service)
  • Drive to Berowra Waters (30 mins)
  • Launch kayaks and paddle to Riverbend Cottage (approx 2-3 hrs plus stops)
  • Overnight at Riverbend Cottage
  • Continue next day on to Kangraoo Point, (approx 2-3 hrs plus stops) where your car will be waiting for you.


This is one option, but there are other ways to enjoy the trip to the Cottage too, and we'd be more than happy to chat about other plans you may have.  However, bear in mind the river is tidal, and we often advise against paddling upstream from Brooklyn to the Cottage.


Of course, there are plenty of places to explore both along the way and once settled in to Riverbend Cottage.  Twin Beaches is just a 15 min paddle, Bar Island with its historic ruined church and graveyard is 20 mins away.  MarraMarra Creek is worth exploring too.


Costs:

Entire cottage, including all amenities mentioned above - $300 per night (excludes kayaks), for 2 people, $100 per extra guest up to max of 8 guests total. (note, there may be some extra charges levied by Airbnb)

Important Notes:

  • Riverbend Cottage is Off Grid, and relies entirely on solar to charge the house battery system.  Care needs to be taken when using the A/C system as this will quickly drain the batteries if used at night.
  • There are no council services here, so we ask that you pack up all rubbish neatly - we will dispose of it, we don't expect you to take it away in the kayak :)
  • Whilst Riverbend Cottage has NBN (Skymuster) phone coverage can be a bit intermittent.​
